Retreat Rooms' Darren Wilks first realised the potential for creating innovative, low down living spaces when he worked on his first basement conversion more than 13 years ago. Since then, his company has completed around 300 underground home extensions all over the UK, using 21st century technology to build sustainable, energy efficient rooms that reflect every lifestyle.

• Windows and doors that are 2-3 times more thermally efficient than ordinary double glazing
• CFC free insulation that exceeds current and future building regulation requirements
• Low energy lighting to reduce energy bills and CO2 emissions
• Longer lasting 'green' roofs that reduce the need for air conditioning in the summer
