Structural engineers are key creative members of every design team and are committed to sustainably develop a safer build environment.
Structural engineers design structures that will withstand the pressures they have to endure. These range from underpinning, new build basements and subterranean rooms. They work alongside the architect at design stage to ensure that a safe secure building structure will work with current ground conditions and structural loads that they may incur.
They develop initial designs, using mathematics to calculate the stress that could arise at each point in the structure, and simulate and model possible situations, such as earth movements, water ingress and soil conditions. When construction has begun, the engineer is involved in inspection of the work on site during the construction process and once the work is complete they issue certification which is required by building control. ICF Engineering Ltd are a close partner within our team, they have a wealth of experience in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) and have carried out many designs and onsite supervision of this type of structure which is especially crucial to new build basements and subterranean rooms. They are also Chartered Engineers who can carry out the design work on retreat rooms on underpinning, excavation and any steel work which is required on existing basements. ICF Engineering
