As you'll see throughout this website, a previously unused and unloved basement or cellar can be converted into anything you like - the only limit to creating 'intelligent space' is your imagination!
Each conversion we undertake is individually designed and waterproofing is planned around the existing ground conditions. All Retreat Rooms waterproofing systems conform to BS8102, which protects structures against water damage and are guaranteed for 10 years.
Waterproofing - Existing Basement Conversions
One of the most important aspects to the success of any underground space is the waterproofing system. At Retreat Rooms we use a cavity membrane system, supported by sumps and pumps, on all internal walls and floors to prevent condensation and running water penetrating the fabric of the building.
Waterproofing - New Build/Subterranean Rooms
The Retreat Rooms waterproofing system, working with the insulated concrete formwork, relies on a revolutionary crystalline technology that turns porous concrete into an impermeable barrier. The result is a structure with reduced cracking, self-sealing and waterproofing abilities that provides a powerful defence against water damage and corrosion of reinforcing steel.
Krystol becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix when applied to existing concrete or added to the mix at time of batching. When combined with water and concrete, Krystol reacts with un-hydrated cement particles to form millions of needle-like crystals. Over a period of weeks and months, these crystals grow filling the naturally occurring pores and voids in concrete, and permanently blocking the pathways for water and waterborne contaminants.
Once the basement/Subterranean room has been built using this system the resultant space will offer a warm, dry environment for decades to come.
Delta membrane System
Membrane is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet with moulded domes as a used as a damp-proofing system on walls, floors and vaulted ceilings above and below ground over contaminated or damp background. It is usually supported with a dry lining system to the walls and ceilings. A screed or concrete finish is always used over the top of the floor membrane.
All Delta cavity drain membrane systems have been approved by the British Board of Agrement and carry a 30 year manufacturer’s warranty.
Drainage Channel
The drainage channel is laid around the perimeter of the basement at the floor-wall junction and is used to control the flow of the ground water to the sump chamber and pump.
Sump and Pump
Delta Dual Retrofit Sump is designed to work in coordination with a cavity drain membrane and drainage channel; this system collects moisture vapour and ground water from that may incur through hydrostatic pressure. The mechanical pumps then discharge the water usually into an external drainage system. Various options are available dependent on the anticipated water ingress and the potential consequences of the basement flooding, this is undertaken by our surveyors at initial design stage. All pumps are fitted with a battery back up power pack to ensure that in the unlikely event of total electricity failure this unit will pump approximately 8,910 litres in back up mode, however this can be upgraded to a maximum 26,730 litres.
Delta High Level Alarm: An audible high-level alarm to warn of mains power or pump failure within a pump station. The alarm is normally powered by 240v mains voltage, however in the event of power failure the unit automatically switches to the battery pack up situated within the unit. The 12v battery, which is continually trickle charged is built into the control panel circuit and is designed to last for life.
We can also provide a variety of submersible sewage pumping units which are ideal for basement flats, bars, etc.
Please note: as part of our long term 10 year guarantee all pumps must be serviced annually to maintain the performance of their optimum capabilities. We offer a service contract as part of our guarantee scheme.
Delta Foulmaxx
Delta Foulmaxx is a range of packaged pump stations manufactured from ether HDPE or GRP designed to remove foul and grey water from domestic and commercial properties where a normal gravity connection is not possible.
The Delta Foulmaxx is manufactured in accordance with BS.12056 and BS.752 covering chambers to be mounted both inside and outside properties. We are also able to comply with Building Regulations part H if required.
Installation
The Delta Foulmaxx is easily installed in most ground conditions by simply lowering the chamber into an excavation with suitable base, making all connections and backfilling with concrete.
Delta have developed a special inlet kit allowing the installer to cut either 110mm or 160mm on site at the exact point required. This means that the majority of chambers can be delivered in one week or less.
Scope of supply
Chambers are available from 580mm to 5m deep and diameters up to 3 metres.
We are able to supply single and dual chambers with a range of pumps with vortex and channel impellers.
In standard form we are able to supply pumps to cope with duties from 2l/s-50l/s and up to a 48mm head.
Delta Membrane Systems carry a British Board of Agrement certification
